Insurers are required to publish the rates they have negotiated with every doctor. We pulled the doctor-level rates for 409 California family and internal medicine physicians and put them next to the doctor’s name, address, and public ratings, so you can see the price before you book.

How This Works
Since 2022, federal Transparency in Coverage rules require health insurers to publish machine-readable files listing the negotiated rate for every in-network provider and every billing code. The files are enormous and unreadable for a person. We parse them.
For each doctor we keep only the rates attached to their own NPI, not to a medical group or a specialty average, and give a doctor a page only when at least three office or preventive visit types are priced. Each rate is the median across the insurer’s plans, with the range shown when plans differ. That is a small fraction of California’s doctors, and it is the fraction where the price actually describes that doctor.
